Why Laura :

My focus is looking out for the best interests of all students in our public schools. As a board member, I want all of our students to have great schools to attend. I want all children to be proud of their school and feel special. I want teachers to be rewarded for student achievement and feel appreciated. I would solicit teacher feedback and use it in decision making. I am not an educator and neither is my opponent. However, I have the ability to listen and make informed and reasonable decisions based on any facts presented to me. I have a preternatural common sense and I inherently and unwaveringly know the difference between right and wrong. I believe American politics today lacks common sense. I will continue to trust my common sense and apply it in all decision making as a board member. I believe elected officials must represent their constituents and represent their voice. I believe financial transparency and accountability are critical when managing taxpayers' funds and I will strive to make the most out of our scarce resources we are allowed to keep in-district.My background in accounting will make me an effective team member on the school board and a responsible steward of public funds.

A candidate for district 5-E has not faced a challenger since 2008, and our current representative has never had an opponent. It is time for district 5-E to have a voice at the polls. I will listen to all stakeholders and be an advocate for the children of Galveston.

I have received an enormous amount of support and encouragement and hearing from you all keeps me motivated and focused. My ultimate goal as a board member will be to ensure all of our students' needs are being met and they are provided with a high-quality education. Another priority will be retaining our wonderful teachers, counselors and all those directly involved in educating our children. While our district continues to face significant challenges, I have no doubt that new energy and leadership can stimulate increased community involvement in education.

Like many of you, I am a working parent, property owner and taxpayer. I have two children attending GISD schools. The community deserves a school board that will meet you with transparency, honesty and represent your interests.

Vote for Laura Parks Addison on November 7th and let me be your voice on the School Board!
